چکیده
This paper aims to investigate the use of ultrasonic guided wave (GW) propagation mechanism and assessment debonding in a sandwich composite structure (SCS) using multi-step approach. Towards this, series GW propagation-based laboratory experiments numerical simulations have been carried out on SCS sample. The regions variable size locations were assessed pre-defined network piezoelectric lead zirconate transducers (PZT). Besides, several artificial masses also placed validate structural health monitoring (SHM) strategy. SHM approach uses proposed quick damage identification matrix maps an improved elliptical processing (EWP) strategy registered signals detect other damages SCS. benefit map is locate damaged area (sectors) quickly. step followed by applying localization EWP only previously identified sector region. has shown potential effectively hidden multiple with reduced number calculations step-wise that selected grid points. shows effectiveness based data gathered from experimental studies. Thus, above-mentioned debondings present within outside sensor are localized. results cross verified nondestructive testing (NDT) methods such as infrared thermography laser Doppler vibrometry.

Detection of Disbond in a Honeycomb Composite Sandwich Structure using Ultrasonic Guided Waves and Bonded PZT Sensors
"Honeycomb Composite Sandwich Structure" (HCSS), is widely used to form major structural components of aerospace, marine and automotive vehicles due to its high strength to weight ratio and high energy-absorption capabilities. In service, the bond between the honeycomb core and skin may degrade with aging and continuous cyclic loadings leading to separation of the load bearing skin from the hon...
متن کاملStructural Health Monitoring Using Guided Ultrasonic Waves to Detect Damage in Composite Panels
In the aircraft industry safety, maintenance costs, and optimum weight are three of the most important factors to consider in design. Composite materials, such as carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRPs), are increasingly used in aerospace applications due to their high strength to weight ratio. However, there are still many challenges to overcome in order to have full confidence in the use of ...
متن کاملOnline Guided Wave-Based Debonding Detection in Honeycomb Sandwich Structures
Because of the complex nature of structural characteristics, damage detection in honeycomb sandwich structures inherently carries many challenges. In the study, effects of debonding on leaky guided wave propagation in honeycomb sandwich structures are first studied by using the finite element method. A surface-bonded piezoelectric wafer actuator/sensor network is used for elastic-guided wave pr...
متن کاملPropagation of Ultrasonic Guided Waves in Composite Multi-Wire Ropes
Multi-wire ropes are widely used as load-carrying constructional elements in bridges, cranes, elevators, etc. Structural integrity of such ropes can be inspected by using non-destructive ultrasonic techniques. The objective of this work was to investigate propagation of ultrasonic guided waves (UGW) along composite multi-wire ropes in the cases of various types of acoustic contacts between neig...
متن کاملNonlinear Ultrasonic Waves for Structural Health Monitoring
Nonlinear ultrasonic waves in solids have shown good sensitivity to quasi-static stresses. The stress sensitivity of elastic waves is typically associated to finite strains (e.g. theory of acoustoelasticity). In the case of waveguides, classical nonlinear theories for guided waves are still based on the assumption of finite strains. In the case of constrained solids subjected to thermal excursi...
